Yearly Physical Exams
As primary care practitioners, Naturopathic physicians perform routine
physical exams as a screening process in preventative medical care.
Routine exams will help screen for risk factors leading to cardiovascular
disease, diabetes, male reproductive disease, and other preventable
health concerns. If it has been more than a year since your last full
physical exam, schedule one with a Village Health Clinic physician.
Male Fertility Health
About 15% of couples trying to conceive have infertility concerns. Of
those couples, about 30% of the cases, there is a male reproductive health
concern that is contributing to the infertility. Semen analysis usually
reveals low sperm counts, abnormal sperm shape (morphology), or poor
sperm activity (motility). Research is mounting around the use of certain
nutrients to improve the quality & count of sperm. For example, Vitamin
C has been shown to reducing sperm agglutination – the clumping
of sperm together in a semen specimen, rendering them immobile and thus
unable to fertilize a woman’s egg. Other causes of poor semen quality
can be screened for and treated by a Village Health Clinic physician.
Prostate Exams
Digital rectal exams are necessary to screen for prostate gland enlargement
and prostate cancer. Symptoms typically arise in men of every age group,
but most prominently in men over 35 years of age. Routine prostate
exams are encourage from age 50 years and on. However, with the first
sign of symptoms, schedule an appointment with a Village Health Clinic
physician to check for prostate enlargement.
Other Men’s Health Issues to discuss with your Village Health
Clinic physician include the majority of health concerns for which you
would see any family physician. Naturopathic Medicine is an effective
means of treating digestive complaints, allergies, skin conditions, fatigue,
chronic pain, sports injuries, and infections.
